Faux Bronze Buddha Shi Ga Meditating on Lotus Throne

Sakyamuni Buddhas’ first incarnation was as Gautama, born in 624 B.C. He is believed to have had 550 incarnations thereafter. He attained divine knowledge or “Bodhi” after six years of fasting and meditation.

In this figure he is seated in the half Lotus position, called the “seat of good fortune”, on a double Lotus pedestal. Behind him on the throne is a Lotus creeper in full bloom, and the Fire of Enlightenment surrounds his head. The Lotus symbolizes purity, perfection and divine birth.

In his left hand is held another double lotus, and the right is held in the mudra for protection.

He wears a rosary with 3 end beads, which represents the Buddhist Trinity (Buddha, The Word and The Priesthood). The auspicious swastika on the breast represents the Buddha’s heart, and is believed to contain within the whole mind of Buddha.

The bulge on top of the head and the bump on the forehead at the third eye are believed to be marks of enlightenment.
